JACOB TOBAR

JACOB TOBAR

Is a fabricator, builder, and designer specializing in a style of faux bois called Trabajo Rustico. He has worked with his cousin, Carlos Cortes (studiocortes.com), on many public art projects in and around the San Antonio area. They include the San Antonio Riverwalk Expansion “Grotto” Project, The Witte Museum, Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial, Tobin Park, Hemisfair Park, Miraflores Park restoration, and the Grist Mill at Mission San Jose National Park. Jacob has a passion for all forms of art with reinforced concrete “Faux Bois” sculpting being his main focus. Jacob currently lives and works outside of Taos, NM in an off grid home/shop because he is passionate about reducing his impact on the environment. He started the shop to continue a family tradition and to do his own thing. He loves collaborating and is super inspired by all of the amazing artists in all current forms of media. Art is finally reaching all types of people and places. It is Jacob's dream to be able to be a part of that! As a fourth generation Trabajo Rustico Artisan, Jacob is very much inspired by the artists and fabricators who came before him (Dionisio Rodriguez, Maximo Cortes, Carlos Cortes, Julius Tober, Frank Tobar, Jorge Cerrato). He is also in awe of and inspired by nature and it's ability to become such a diverse collection of living and nonliving “Things".
