Envision Gallery is pleased to announce its major 2011 exhibition: Rust Bones & Paint: sculpture by Reto Messmer and paintings by Kristine Keheley.

The two artists are friends, Messmer initiated the exhibit when he suggested that his sculptures and Keheley's paintings had a lot to say to each other. Envision is happy to provide the venue for what promises to be a provocative show of great beauty and depth.

This will be the debut Taos gallery show for Swiss born sculptor Messmer who has lived in the Taos area since 1994. Messmer won the People's Choice Award at the Fall Arts Festival Taos Open Exhibit in 2 consecutive years, 2006 and 2007. His work re-invents and re-animates animal skeletons by fusing them with cast off found metal machinery to create new beings with new destinies. Inherently evocative, Messmer’s art plays with the artifacts of death and decay with respect and joy.

Keheley has shown her work professionally in Taos since 1993, with numerous solo exhibitions at Collins Pettit, Jaquelin Loyd, and the Fenix Gallery. Her recent paintings are vibrantly layered explorations of the artist's continuing visionary experience. Inspired by the emotional power of the sublime and her love of the physicality of paint, Keheley's work is luminous, decadent, and lush. Created with glazes of layer upon layer of transparent oils the ultimate surface is rich with spatial effects, colour experimentation, and internal light.

Rust, Bones, and Paint opens at Envision Gallery at the Overland Ranch Complex Saturday July 16th, with a reception at 5 PM, and runs through September 1st.

Working with discarded steel and wood, Bruce Campbell creates sculptures with personality, revealing haunting imagery in civilization’s junk. Campbell will be one of the key artists of the Taos Solar Music Festival.
Gigantic recycled earth spirits will be coming to life at the Taos Solar Music Festival (june 29th to july 1st). Artist Bruce Campbell is putting a call out to the Taos community for large metal forms, which he will resurrect as mystical beings on the festival grounds in Kit Carson Park. Over the next seven months Bruce will be rolling around the desert collecting water tanks, cement mixers, sheet metal and other miscellaneous industrial debris to be painted and sculpted into Gods, Goddesses, Kings, Queens, Saints, Spirits, Totems, and other modern/primitive industrial kachinas.
