VERY SMALL WORKS

The images in these paintings are ‘floating’ in painted white borders that have the visual effect of mats. These are miniature portraits of miniature things; the old Monopoly game tokens, buttons and marbles are all smaller than one inch in reality and are represented four or five times their size. The buttons are posed on old patterned neckties; the marbles are on a 1960’s striped plastic plate; the game tokens are on a black glass mirror which gives back a deep double reflection. All paintings are oil on wood or masonite panels and are framed with high quality, simple black frames. Prices include frames.

The recent oil paintings by Tom Rogers are compositions based on close-up photography of familiar small objects. These ordinary items are examined in detail and rendered several times larger than life to reveal the intimate details of light, shadow and reflection that starkly describe each object’s individual structure and its relationship to other objects and to the surface it rests on. Rogers’ intention is to make still life paintings that, although simple and matter-of-fact, are unexpected and refreshing. All paintings are oil on wood or masonite panels and are framed with high quality, simple black frames. Prices include frames.
